BODY SHAPES.....

HOURGLASS BODY SHAPE
A curvaceous figure with a full bust.  Defined waistline with shoulders, bust and hips balanced proportionally and in line with each other.  The “ideal” body shape.  Goal is to draw attention to the waistline and accentuate the curves without adding size to one specific area.
Stay  away from:
  • Bodice with ruffles and or excessive detail around bust area. This will add size up top and make you appear unproportioned.
  • Bodice with a baggy fit.  This will add volume up top.
  • Hem lines that are very short.  This will shorten and round out your shape.
Wear:
  • Dresses with emphasis on the waist
  • A-line dresses
  • Sheath dresses
  • Wrap dresses
  • Dresses with banded waistlines
  • Jumpers with a slight flare or wide legs

APPLE BODY SHAPE
A figure with a full bust line and little or no waistline definition.  May appear top heavy and weight gain usually gravitates to the mid-section.  Goal is to elongate the torso and balance out the silhouette by drawing attention to the lower half.
Stay away from:
  • Dresses with bold prints and patterns above the waistline
  • Dresses with tight and tapered skirts
  • Dresses with high necklines
  • Dresses with full or puffy sleeves
Wear:
  • Dresses with V-necklines
  • A-line dress
  • Empire dress
  • Shift dress

RECTANGLE BODY SHAPE
A lean and athletic figure with balanced shoulders and hips.  A straight figure with a waist that tends to have little or no definition. Goal is to create a curvatious waistline and add width to upper and lower parts.
Stay away from:
  • Dresses with narrow skirts
  • Dresses with a dropped waist line
  • Dresses with skinny belts

  • Dresses with an Empire waist
  • Wrap dresses

PEAR BODY SHAPE
A curvaceous figure with emphasis on the hips, thighs and bottom.  Bust line and shoulders are proportionally narrow, but the waist is well defined.  Goal is to achieve balance between your upper and bottom half and to create the appearance of a wider torso and larger bust.

  • Dresses with full skirts
  • Dresses with tiers
  • Dresses with pleats
  • Dresses with eye catching prints on the bottom
  • Dresses with back pocket details
Wear:
  • A-line dress
  • Halter top dress
  • Empire waist dress
  • Wrap dress
  • Strapless dress
  • Dresses with draped, V or scooped necklines
  • Dresses with printed tops, puff sleeves
  • Jumpers /jumpsuits with flare, straight or wide leg
