Men's Spring 2014 Shoes: It's Worth Talking About

Top Left to Right: Dolce and Gabbana Men's Spring 2014 lace-ups, Dior Homme, and Prada sneakers.
Bottom Left to Right: Calvin Klein Collection Men's Spring 2014 shoes; Louis Vuitton Men's silver oxfords

Lately, it seems we've been focusing a great amount of time on women's fashion instead of menswear as well. There are other sites who are still talking about the must have women's accessories for next spring 2014, but not much (only a few) have shared their thoughts on next season's spring 2014 men's accessories.

We have already covered most of the men's spring 2014 collection here, but we haven't focused on something else that gives a final touch and life to an outfit.......Shoes! They are the basis of what makes a collection stand out even if "shoes" don't come to mind. Why do I like that outfit so much? The shoes are probably the answer.

Personally, as I searched for some of the best shoes of the season, I noticed designers are beginning to put much more thought and details into men's shoes. We used to see the same types of brogues, monks, and oxford styles in previous collections, but with technology changing the world of fashion, there is so much more to offer now. And bigger competition to survive in the accessories industry to convince someone to pay such thousands of dollars on a single pair of shoes.

Real leather may elevate prices over the sky for some, but you have to agree some things just transmit a better image when luxury is injected into them. All of these shoes above and below are basically the same type of leather until details become the noteworthy part that separate each brand.

Dior Homme caused a sensation with those insets of silver hardware that said nothing so basic about a pair of derbies, while Louis Vuitton's textured patches of silver-y metallic oxfords stated luxury party boy when paired with black suit attires - it made one want to leave those ordinary black oxfords somewhere else. Raf Simons (slide 19) also made squared loafers give us another thought on wearing them again with a technical brush of faded blue on its vamp, and Lanvin gave great amount of texture to its pair of white invigorating loafers (slide 13).

When it came to casual attire, sneakers sure did make a pleasing l'air to spend some money on next season. Fendi (slide 5) came up with one of the best men's sneakers to crave over with dying techniques that lifted the cool factor of an ordinary sneaker. Kris Van Assche (slide 18) didn't stay behind as well, giving black monk-straps a unique twist by turning them into a pair of black sneakers. Burberry Prorsum's men's colored sneakers in suede and Gucci's blue leather lace-ups gave it a nice classical touch for the ones who may have the money to spare on, but Valentino kept it strong again with their detailed camouflage sneakers that at $795 for a single pair of these describes what luxury sneakers are all about. Although, Jimmy Choo's spring 2014 mens pair of sneakers and high-tops could increase the competition for Valentino somewhat very soon. But don't worry, because hopefully Kenneth Cole's new black and bronze snake high-tops (slide 10) may come accessible for the rest of us to enjoy.

Overall, next season will come full of indecisive choices of great clothes and shoes you'll have to think about to save you out of debt.

Are Menswear Designers Competing Against Zara?

zara mens graphic t-shirts

Is it comforting to say that fashionable retail chains - H&M, Topman, and Zara - are now giving high-end designers, especially menswear, a competition of their own? If we look at how fast men's fashion is moving, it has become somewhat daunting for designers to sell off their highly priced designs when another retailer (Zara) is producing similar designs of theirs for half the price (or more) of an original designer item. High-end menswear collections have been around for quite a while, but now that more men are paying attention to their personal style, designers may not feel it fair to see other mega retailers taking over their designs after they've invested more creativity and time in their menswear seasonal collections.

It used to be that tailored and very fitted clothes could only be obtained through designers, but today anyone can obtain their very fitted pieces - pants beginning at $29.99 to a suit retailing at $80 or a intricate biker jacket at $300. What's the difference? Authentic leather has gone up the sky, improved details and cuts are paid much more attention to, craftsmanship may be of a special technique, and a brand's label closes the deal. But most men are less about technique and cut, and more about it's cool, fits well, and a perfect price for such an investment. Men sometimes find it difficult to invest in a great $1,000 coat because they're afraid it won't be a well worth investment compared to a $1,000 technology device. This is probably one of the main factors that have led designers themselves like Michael Kors, Kenneth Cole, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and much more concentrate in producing very noteworthy designs for their diffusion lines that cost less than their designer collections.

zara mens inspired t-shirts

While some retail chains hire unknown designers or creative directors to create their own unique "designer collections," one particular retailer seems to be ahead of the curve. Zara has included a series of religious and greek god t-shirts that seem to have been inspired by Dolce & Gabbana's Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 collections. They not only have these types of t-shirts, but also others that have similarities towards Givenchy's ones. Hedi Slimane of Saint Laurent has also put his $4,900 short-fitted biker jackets on the hunt for Zara to retail theirs for only $299.99; huge price cut and fitted, although we'd prefer Saint Laurent's version. Accessories, such as Valentino's most photographed street style camouflage sneakers, have also made it to Zara's store for a price of $99.90, compared to its $795 designer version; these sneakers are so identical it makes you want to buy them. To say the least, the designer inspired items you may seek for could be hidden at a Zara retailer.

There is no denial that Zara has been a clever and an on trend company that seems to be doing their research very well. We could dare to say that Zara is becoming one of the strongest fashionable retail chains that is giving much more attention to its menswear line, introducing and even predicting new trends that are sure to be a mega hit.

They have created a well put formula for men to wear designer quality items - very fitted pieces, accessories, and special details - but at the same time, have a feel for a luxury designer inspired item. And while half of men may still be investing in highly coveted outfits, the other half may not have an excuse for unattainable style, because there is a retail that is offering you designer inspired models at reasonable prices. The question here though is would you rather opt for the original designer's collection or spend less at Zara? If we could express our personal opinion, you would agree with us that while a retailer may be selling great inspired designs, there will always be a special design only a designer can offer.

A Men's Turtleneck for Fall 2013 Trends| You Need it

It wouldn't be fair not give our guys a little preview of some of the trends that are up to come. This season turtlenecks, black shiny leather pieces, and sportswear themes (sneakers, varsity jackets, etc.) are just some of the few key items to keep in mind for Men's Fall 2013 Trend.

Turtlenecks may not be most guys best friend, but with a glimpse of hardcore leather and details you can make the look much more masculine and youthful in both manners. Take Balmain's green buttoned shoulder turtleneck, for example, and pair it with a perfect fitted Saint Laurent leather trousers and either chelsea boots for a modern l'air or Saint Laurent's black leather sneakers for an urban touch. Either looks will definitely be a plus to your style meter this upcoming fall/winter 2013; stay tuned also for a full coverage of the menswear fall 2013 trends.

The Perfect Watch for Father's Day

daniel wellington watches
These are the perfect watches for any father - young, mature, or fashion savvy.

Father's Day is almost here, and looking for the perfect gift for a dad can be one of the most stressful hunts of the week. A father can be quite a picky man whether they say not. Especially when it comes to  being fashion savvy, clothes may not be of good choice when gifting someone unless you really know their great taste. All that being said, accessories are the perfect gift when it comes to father's day, such as this exclusive Daniel Wellington watches.

A watch has some magic of its own, because it is what makes the man. You see he ports a Rolex, then he must have a lot of money to wear it. Now, I know most of us can't afford to buy such a luxurious piece of status, but there are many watches out their that have a luxury feel without breaking the bank account. Daniel Wellington's watches are just the perfect father's day gift for any man who wants a refined, masculine timepiece on their wrist. Their minimalistic, light and beautiful designs make them of great appeal to any region of men.

Their navy nylon colored wristband watch are a great selection for the dad who likes to be on top of the most recent fashion trends, whilst their dark brown crocodile leather watch cannot let you down. They also come available in two watch face colors - rose gold or silver - and are water resistant for those busy dad's. Prices range between $199 - $229 USD. Luxury was never this affordable.

What will you give your dad on this Father's Day?

Alexander Wang's Cool Urban Shirts Collection

Alexander Wang's Mens Urban Cool Shirts
Alexander Wang can make any guy look Urban Cool. An exclusive collection for Mr. Porter only.

Mr. Porter may be having their seasonal sale going on right now, but I am more interested in something else. Not so long ago Raf Simons presented his exclusive floral prints collection for Mr.Porter, and all of the sudden as I visited the site today,  it appears that Alexander Wang has also created an exclusive collection that will only be available on the online retail site. Quite a surprise happening too soon.

When it comes to being the cool kid in the streets, Wang just has it all for your. Those cool yet sophisticated sweatpants, sleek t-shirts, and simply your damn cool bomber jacket. You have nowhere else to look for them. Urban cool would be the two words that comes up to mind when describing Alexander Wang's work. And let me tell you, kids here in the South, who had not been familiar with who Wang was, have become quite a fan of his work. Raf Simons, who I greatly respect, can be somewhat of a debate, but as I've shown these exclusive pieces to some guys today, they seem to have gone wild for those washed t-shirts, structured jackets, and both the contrast sleeve shirt and sweater pictured above.

The white contrast-sleeve shirt may range at a price of $275, which I find it quite a fair price being that Alexander Wang could be considered a well known designer label. I mean, you could ask for it instead at let's say $600? His gray-contrast merino sweater is priced at $395 (fair, considering fabric and design), while one bonded-leather bomber jacket goes up to $1,195. Hey, it may seem a lot, but something tells me it could have looked like a $3,000 jacket. That's what I love mostly about Alexander Wang. He always delivers his best fresh designs, while considering price both in men's and women's fashion. What do you think about this exclusive collection?

Check more of his other designs at his official site, alexanderwang.com. And exclusive collection at mrporter.com.

Raf Simons' Floral Prints are Masculine

Raf Simons Floral Prints Capsule Collection for Mr Porter
Raf Simons' floral prints may take some time to incorporate into men's wardrobe.

What is wrong with a man wearing a floral print shirt? Only that he has the confidence enough to pull it off.  And that's what fashion has been all this time in menswear. This season, it was Mr. Simons turn to design a 13-piece capsule collection that will only be sold exclusively at online luxury men's retailer, Mr Porter. The collection consists of shirts, t-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts, high-top sneakers, and a bomber jacket, all of which are designed in vivid floral prints any men could actually wear.

What I alway admire about Mr. Simons interpretation on menswear is that he always knows just how much to exceed and keep minimal. He seems to have a limit as to wear he'll cross the boundary, something that has gained him some more followers in men's fashion. Any type of feminine prints may be a subject of worry for other men, but Mr Porter knows exactly who they're selling too - the stylish and confident man who knows who he really is. As a customer, I particularly would be interested in purchasing a t-shirt or white button-down floral shirt to include into my special collection of designer pieces. One thing for sure is let the prints do most of the work and tone it down with neutral (black) shorts or trousers and cool shoes as Mr. Simons would have in mind - minimal.

Yes, it may take time for most men to shift into this new type of era. Pink became a color most men got comfortable wearing over the years. But Raf Simons may become the greatest designer he is already, in giving men the confidence to pull of these floral print numbers.

Gap Men's Colored Slim Khaki's Are Worth a Try

Gap men's colored slim khakis

Spring is the time when you get to dress in more colorful outfits - not that you can't in the winter - but, more people are open to do this in the spring/summer time. Lately, I've been trying to search for a good pair of pants that won't break the bank. I was debating whether to purchase or not a pair of Gucci mustard colored pants, which retailed at $740. Not too expensive for a pair of pants, huh? I was just fascinated by the choice of colored trousers in Gucci's Spring 2013 menswear collection. The colors for me happen to be so vivid yet masculine.

I've owned a pair of men's Express chinos - various neutral colors - which I still happen to love for its slim fit and lengthening effect that I feel makes me look taller. The colors are fresh, and the pants are nice, but the Express man is more of a urban city guy who tends to keep his patterns and colors toned down. I wanted something more vivid. I am also a fan of H&M's pants, but I am the type of person who likes to experiment with different brands. I was seeking for something fresh in my closet.

I had been hearing great reviews by recent customers who had visited the Gap store at a near mall where I live. I decided to take a quick visit to the store and see what they had available. I was impressed by the various menswear colored pants (khakis) Gap had available in their store. I decided to try on a pair and was very amazed by how well they fit. The colors were the type of hues I was seeking forth in. Also, the fit felt slim-relaxed, which I refer to being comfortable, lengthening, fresh, and slim, not tight. I personally liked the pants, and I purchased it.

I also went online to see if they had more colors available. And guess what? They happened to have a sort of similar pair of mustard khakis, but in canary yellow, as they named it. There are various colors of them available online. Immediately as I saw it, I came up with an outfit I could pair these pants with. What I love about Gap's pants is that you can go any way you want to - dress, casual, or semi-formal - for any necessary occasion. Put on a nice a blazer, jacket, or layering shirt, paired with any accessories, and your outfit is done and clean.

Gap men's colored pants - outfit collage

In conclusion, I am not a regular Gap customer, but I also happen to like their assortment of shirts and polos, besides their khakis. I thought it was very casual and pleasing for the young and average male customer.  I might as well return soon to see what else I can get inspired by.

Are you a regular customer at Gap?

Warby Parker | 1922 Limited-Edition Collection

Warby Parker - 1922 Collection
Warby Parker 1922 Collection available online at warbyparker.com

It has been three years since Warby Parker first launched its online eyewear company back in February of 2010, which did not take long for such a talented brand to be recognized by various fashion magazines – Vogue, GQ, Elle, and Esquire. Their seasonal collections of prescription sunglasses and eyeglasses for men and women have boosted them to be one of the most recognized companies in the retail market.

What I really admire about their glasses is that they have a modern vintage appeal to their pieces. They offer a great variety of designs, colors, and patterns to stay dapper or fashionable all season long. As a customer, you want to search for that perfect pair that feels like a designer collection, fits your personality, and best of all won’t break your bank account. Warby Parker exceeds these requirements.

Their eyewear glasses are actually designed exclusively at their headquarters in New York where each season they introduce a new collection for customers to purchase from. These pieces are made from the highest quality materials that offer 100% UV protection, and are sold online at a beginning price of $95 to $150 for prescription sunglasses. Also, for every pair sold, another pair is donated to someone in need, which is something very kind and charitable coming from a company. What else do you want when you know you’re not purchasing any sort of eyeglasses or sunglasses, but an authentic brand collection that offers luxury and charitable aid?

For this spring’s limited edition collection, Warber Paker decided to travel back to the festive year of 1922. Their inspiration was taken back into 1922's year of iconic literature pieces that were published. James Joyce published Ulysses; T.S. Elliot published The Wasteland. Eugene O’Neill won a Pulitzer in literature.  And music may have been another big factor in this year, such as the influence of Louis Armstrong. Life was simply about literature and dance which would later open the doors to the roaring twenties.

Being that this brand approaches more towards the vintage aesthetics in my opinion, this
1922 Collection translates that interwar glamour into a wearable future, as the brand implies. Each of the three new unisex frames – Porter, Duke, and Joplin – comes with a sunglasses version that features dramatic details in custom acetate and lightweight stainless steel.

I personally find this a collection I would see myself purchasing as either my new prescription sunglasses or eyeglasses. Somehow, I sense a desirable vibe towards the Porter frames. There is a structured design to them that just scream outgoing and confident. You have to agree the gimlet and whisky tortoise both would be a design you'd see in streestyle photographs. Gotta have them somewhere in your wardrobe.

The rounded Duke frames are great for those guys or girls who love to add a little bit of vintage touch in their looks. I am not a huge fan of rounded frames, but for this certain style I'd give it a try. There is no denial the Duke frames can make a guy seem dapper and intelligent without the feel of being viewed as nerdy.

The Joplin wide-spaced eyeframes fit perfectly for the guy or girl who wants style without overlooking it. There are several of these designs out in the market, but with the luxury finish and affordable price of Warby Parker, these frames are sure to fly off the stands very soon. The gold tone or silver Joplin's are another form of making your outfit be the one to like.

Warby Parker - 1922 Collection Porter Frames

Warby Parker - 1922 Collection Duke Frames
Warby Parker - 1922 Collection Joplin Frames

I would definitely take a look at Warby Parker’s eyeglasses and sunglasses 1922 Collection. There is no excuse to not try on a pair of these glasses. If you’re excuse is I live far away from New York, then think again. Warby Parker offers a Home Try-On program where you can order 5 pairs to try on and see if you like the style – shipped for free. It doesn’t hurt to look good and help others along the way.

As of now, Warby Parker recently opened their first flagship retail store located in Soho’s historic Cast Iron Disctrict in New York. If you ever get the chance to travel to New York, you should visit this place. Hopefully, this retailer will begin to expand soon in other states, and best of all, keep donating.

Which of these 1922 Collection frames would you buy?

GSR X Belstaff - A Collaboration Worth Your Investment

GSR X Belstaff Collection
A tartan motorcycle jacket from GSR X Belstaff men's collection.

Belstaff is literally one of the best British luxury brands that exists. Very rarely are there brands that manage to succeed based on their iconic pieces. A Belstaff belted jacket is just as iconic as a Chanel tweed jacket would be. What makes a Belstaff jacket a favorite among many is not just it's quality, but it's wearability.

Belstaff knows how to sell to the man who does not only look for something to stay warm and dapper, but  also seeks for the jacket that fits their lifestyle. Most of their outerwear pieces pertain particularly to the man who is quite adventurous - motorcycle riding, hiking, camping, etc. Their jackets are of superb quality that can be resistant to tearing, are waterproof, have built-in protection (shoulders, elbows, and back), are comfortable, and breathable without suffocating yourself. And much more included in a single jacket. What more can a man ask for? I call this a man's best investment of his fashion life.

I must say I feel Belstaff markets to the young adult in their late 20s. Not that this means anything, but the reason I state this is because the GSR (Goodwood Sports & Racing) X Belstaff collection totally appeals to a more younger audience - fresh, adventurous, and spirited. Their is definitely a great amount of Belstaff heritage injected into this collection though, but in a much more cooler version.

Details here are stunning, which speaks a lot for such a supposed collaboration. This appears more of collection that should carry on soon to a second round. In other words, the heritage sportswear british brand of GSR, and the lifestyle habits of Belstaff collide in one of the best menswear collaborations that I have ever seen personally.

GSR X Belstaff Collection
Dark brown belted motorcycle jacket and blue jacket from GSR X Belstaff collection.

The tartan motorcycle jacket, dark brown belted jacket, and the details in the rubberized blue jacket are impeccably wearable for any occasion. It doesn't matter if it's day or night, zipped or unzipped, either way would work fine. At the end, isn't this what every man wants? Not have to worry which way pleases the best.

GSR X Belstaff Collection
Casualwear polos, shirts, and t-shirts from the GSR X Belstaff men's collection.

Besides their great jackets, casualwear here should be of great interest. I love the effect that the tartan button down shirt and the oat printed jersey shirt offer. The knitted, diamond-shaped patterned polo shirt should be one to have a look at for it definitely does not appear like your average polo you may have in your closet. Normally, I am not crazy towards white t-shirts, but this t-shirt obviously does not seem to be like the one you would use for your sleepwear. For $195, somehow sounds convincing.

Krink X Coach | Best Menswear Accessories

Krink x Coach Menswear Collection
Krink X Coach collection now available at Coach online

Coach has grown to be one of the best sought after accessories not only for women, but for men as well. I always have this doubt to wear a "portfolio," which for many men they see as a clutch they would rather not carry for certain circumstances. They would rather not wear a tote either to avoid looking odd, even if they are carrying a huge load of crap in their hands. You know you want one secretly, but you don't want others to take away your masculinity.

Recently, Coach came out with one the best menswear accessory pieces in my opinion. They collaborated with Krink, one of the world's greatest art supply brand, whose streetstyle graffiti ink has taken them to collaborate with many amazing brands.

This season it was time to aid Coach in designing 12 exclusive pieces for men which are sure to run out of stock very soon. The designs are just manly sick. These are the type of totes or "portfolios" I would definitely be comfortable wearing. You know I live in the South where most men are quite conservative; even the young adults. I feel Coach came out with a design piece that could be adequate for most men; not feminine, nor too fashionable. They added just the right elements I would be excited to purchase.

I honestly don't have a specific favorite piece, because all of them are dead on stunning. Coach hit a great menswear fanatic target here. Whether you are a fashionable/stylish guy or not, you know their is something here for you to get. Why not go ahead and grab that tote you were not seeking forward to getting once? Or, you could get yourself the Krink iPad sleeve to make it stand out from the others. What ever you get, I guarantee you made the perfect choice. Thanks Coach.

Hermes Luxurious Crocodile T-Shirt

hermes crocodile mens summer t-shirt
Hermes Crocodile T-Shirt (Spring/Summer 2013) that retails for $91,500

Hermes has been in the center of attention lately for its upmost ridiculous t-shirt retail price. This crocodile t-shirt above retails for $91,500. No, I did not make a typo. If you were to buy this t-shirt (I wonder who would), you would be paying around $8,000 simply in taxes. Seriously? This could pay for a good college education, a car, or a moderate home. In the South I could purchase a good luxurious home.

Whoever were to buy this item I'd believe it would be only for the sole purpose of showing off how much money they have. You know I'm a freak when it comes to designer clothes, but this t-shirt in particular I don't know. I recently came across a Burberry crocodile trenchcoat that retailed around this particular Hermes price tag. I know Hermes is well known for its luxurious couture craftsmanships, such as its Birkin Bags which begin at a retail price of $10,000 and above, but sometimes luxury can exceed its standard limits.

In general, if I even had thousands of dollars, I would never agree upon purchasing this t-shirt. There are so many more things one would be able to do with this amount. I love Hermes though. Who wouldn't?

Would you buy this t-shirt if you had all the money in the world?

Raf Simons X Fred Perry

Raf Simons x Fred Perry - One of the best menswear collaborations
From left to right: Short sleeve panel shirt, V-neck houndstooth sweater, and Knitted jacquard shirt.

It has been no secret how big of a fan I’ve been for Raf Simons. His position as new creative director for Christian Dior brought him more prestige than what he already was when at Jil Sander. Menswear has been no difference for this designer. Everything he designs is meant to be a trend setter for the men seeking to look “fashionable.” It is only for him where I can state his collections are truly on the fashion spot for men. They never fall in the side where something can look sort of bizarre for a man. You know what I mean.

For spring, well renowned menswear brand, Fred Perry took the time to include a collaboration collection with Raf Simons. If you have not seen the collection then you must go see it. I guarantee there will be something for you to get your hands on. This is what I love about Simons. I don’t know how he does it, but he always manages to make a colorful patterned sweater or a cheetah print shirt appear so masculine. The three looks above are just some of the clothes I truly like. I honestly want to get the third look from the right (blue-green knitted jacquard shirt). It’s a must have for spring.

Do you like this collection of Raf Simons x Fred Perry?

Stripes and Cardigans - What Every Men is Seeking For

As you know, spring is just around the corner. Since next week is the last week of February, I thought why not post a pre-spring collage. Stripes have always been my best friend when it comes to t-shirts. I don’t know why, but I feel a t-shirt should be youthful, cool, and stylish. Yes, a plain t-shirt can be stylish too; I still prefer color in my shirts (designs/prints).

I always say there is no excuse for trying to look your best – creativity is the key ingredient. As you can see, I did my best to lower the prices on most of these outfits. I usually stick to retailers, such as Zara and H&M, when it comes to fair prices. H&M does great when it comes to the most recent fashion trends.

Style Tip: Take a t-shirt, such as the one above, and pair it with a cardigan. A cardigan can do wonders to your outfit; this could be a great investment to think about. They can be worn both formal and casual. You could even layer a navy blazer over it if you’d like to.
There are so many ways you could shift around with these outfits above.

Do you have any other ideas to share?
